Controllers of Hong Kong real estate conglomerate, New World, and the world’s largest jewellers, Chow Tai Fook. Family patriarch, Cheng Yu-Tung, took over the jewellery retailer from his father-in-law, Chow Chi-Yuen, in 1956.
In 2012, Cheng Yu-Tung’s son, Henry, became Chairman of Chow Tai Fook and New World, four years before the passing of his father in 2016. Henry’s daughter, Sonia, acquired Rosewood Hotels in 2011 through her family’s real estate group and rebranded the hospitality chain as Rosewood Hotel Group. The luxury brand operates 27 hotels, including Paris’ historic Hotel de Crillon. After attending Harvard and spending time in investment banking, Henry’s son, Adrian Cheng, joined the family business in 2006 and began focusing on millennial-centric real estate developments. Henry’s brother, Peter, sits on the board of Chow Tai Fook and New World and serves as the Executive Director of New World China Land Ltd.’s mainland China property portfolio.
The Cheng’s are one of the richest families in Asia, with an estimated net worth of $22.5 billion.
