The world’s largest jeweller. The Hong Kong-based chain was founded by Chow Chi-Yuen in 1929.
The early success of Chow Chi-Yuen’s jewellery store led to the expansion of the business from Macau to Hong Kong in the late 1930s. Cheng Yu-Tung managed the operation throughout the 40s and eventually married Chow Chi-Yuen’s daughter. Cheng Yu-Tung took over the business in 1956 and began growing the retail operation throughout Hong Kong. Cheng later pioneered the company’s guarantee of 999.9 gold purity. The company’s popular “Fixed Price” Policy was established in the 90s and did away with the haggling that was common in the industry at the time. Chow Tai Fook expanded to Mainland China, opening its first Beijing store in 1998. By 2014, the Group operated 2000 retail locations. Today, the company offers products through its three segments, Mass Luxury, High-End Luxury and Youth Line. For its youth segment, Chow Tai Fook sells Disney-licensed products. The company has annual sales of $8.2 billion.
