Gestamp Automoción is Spain’s largest automotive steel company, supplying steel parts for automotive manufacturers throughout Europe. It was formally founded as Gestamp Automoción in 1997, although the company is a continuation of Gonvarri, which was founded by Francisco Riberas in 1958. The company’s main product lines include Structural chassis assemblies (cross members) and hinges. It also provides laser beam welding, hot stamping, cold stamping, HSS stamping, roll forming and hydroforming. Their specific area of expertise lies in products for safer and lighter vehicles that lead to reduced energy consumption and environmental impact. Headquartered in Madrid, Gestamp Automoción has 100 production plants and 13 R&D centres in 21 countries, employing a total of approximately 41,000 people. Of their 100 production plants, 45 are located in Western Europe, 17 in Eastern Europe, 13 in North America, 13 in South America and 17 in Asia. In 2018, Gestamp Automoción earned nearly 285.5 million euros, just short of their 2017 earnings of 288 million euros. The company’s roots trace back to 1958 when Francisco Riberas Pampliega founded a metal shop with three friends called Gonvarri, which was a combination of the four founders’ names – González, Varela, Ruiz and Riberas.
