DACHSER GmbH & Co. KG is a global leader in logistics based in Kempten, Germany. Founded by Thomas Dachser in 1930, the family-owned company is now led by Bernhard Simon, representing the family’s third generation.
Originally a tiny shipping company with a single truck, DACHSER grew to become the leading freight transportation company in southern Germany by 1938. Rebuilding after World War II, DACHSER moved into air freight, becoming the first shipping company to establish an office at the Munich airport in 1951.
The company’s 1971 swap body innovation for shipping containers would later become an industry staple. DACHSER expanded its network into Eastern Europe in 1994, and moved into Western Europe and North Africa through its merger with French logistics company Graveleau in 1999.
The company continued to extend its European presence during the early 2000s with its 2005 acquisition of the Haugstedt Group which operated in Denmark, Sweden and Norway.
Today, DACHSER is one of Germany’s 50 largest family-owned businesses, with more than 30,000 employees globally and annual revenue of over $6 billion.
