The Done family is one of Great Britain’s greatest rags-to-richest story due in large part to their ownership stake in Betfred, one of the UK’s largest betting operations. For the 12 months ending September 24, 2017, total gambling through all Betfred channels reached £12.7b. The family business patriarchs are brothers Fred and Peter Done, who started working for bookmakers when they were just teenagers. In 1967, the Done brothers financed the purchase of a struggling bookmaking shop in Pendelton, largely from a winning bet they made for England to win the 1966 World Cup. In 1983, Peter Done expanded the family’s business interests when he launched Peninsula, a consulting firm which provides professional legal and HR services to small businesses across the UK. Today, Peninsula has more than 30,000 clients and 2,700 staff worldwide. The Done family has been involved in local Philanthropic efforts through organisations such as the Fred And Maureen Done Charitable Trust. Fred Done sits as a director along with his wife, Maureen, and their daughter Leanne Done-Jackson. Among the family’s business accolades is Peter Done’s Ernst & Young Master Entrepreneur of the Year in 2008. In 2018, the Done family’s net worth was estimated at £1.0 billion.
