Low-cost airline and transportation services company that specialises in short- and medium-haul routes. Headquartered in Luton, UK, easyJet was founded by Stelios Haji-Ioannou in 1995.
In 1996, easyJet secured its first wholly-owned aircraft and began international operations with flights from Luton to Amsterdam, Nice and Barcelona. easyJet acquired Swiss charter operation TEA Basel in 1998 and expanded its service to Switzerland. The company went public on the London Stock Exchange in 2000 and purchased Stansted-based low-cost airline Go in 2003. easyJet secured its 100th aircraft in 2005 and acquired GB Airways in 2007, expanding its destinations to Southern Europe and North Africa. In 2010, easyJet offered 500 routes and, by 2013, had flown 60 million passengers. The company took delivery of its 250th Airbus aircraft in 2015.
Today, easyJet has annual sales of nearly $8 billion and a workforce of over 12,000 employees. The company has 29 bases across Europe and flies 1,000 routes to 130 destinations in 31 European countries. With a fleet of 331 Airbus aircraft, easyJet is the world’s largest operator of Airbus single-aisle aircraft.
