Love’s Travel Stops & Country Stores is one of the United States’ largest chain of truck stops and roadside convenience stores. Headquartered in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Love’s has more than 480 locations in 41 states and employs more than 23,000 people. The business is divided up into two main skews: (1) country stores, which are primarily fuel stations and convenience stores and (2) travel stops, which offer additional truck-stop services such as restaurants, tire service for trucks and light mechanical services. According to Forbes, Love’s Travel Stops & Country Stores earned approximately $19 billion in revenue for the 2017 fiscal year. That places them 16th on their list of largest American privately held companies. Love’s was founded in 1964 when husband and wife Tom and Judy Love bought their first gas station in Watonga, Oklahoma and started the Musket chain of service stations. The fuel crisis of the early 1970s prompted them to add food sales to the business model as a means to generate more revenue. This would lead to the first country store opening in 1978. Three years later, they opened their first full travel stop. In 1986, they formally changed the name from Musket to its current incarnation.
