The Mateschitz and Yoovidhya families are the owners of the popular energy drink, Red Bull. In 1987, Chaleo Yoovidhya and Dietrich Mateschitz founded the company that sold 7.5 billion cans of Red Bull globally in 2019.
Thai investor Chaleo Yoovidhya and Austrian Dietrich Mateschitz, a former marketing executive, first partnered in 1984 to transform the sodas that Yoovidhya was selling in Thailand for the Western marketplace.
After his death in 2012, Chaleo’s half ownership in the company was transferred to his eldest son, Chalerm Yoovidhya, who heads the Group today.
Chalerm’s brother, Saravoot, is Red Bull Thailand’s managing director. Chalerm’s son, Varit, serves as assistant managing director for the family’s Siam Winery Trading Plus Company and is vice president of their exotic automobile company, Cavallino Motors.
As a sports fan, Dietrich Mateschitz entered Formula One Racing in 2005 and co-owns the Toro Rosso team, as well as several football clubs.
Both the Yoovidhya and Mateschitz families have an estimated net worth of over $20 billion.
