The company expanded into building material manufacturing and produced products such as steel siding, roofing and doors for 30 years before selling the division in 1994. Menards innovated a delivery system based on centralised distribution that would later be adopted by its DIY home improvement competitors. During the 2000s, the company entered the big-box retailing format, opening several locations with more than 200,000 square feet.
