Tönnies Holding GmbH & Co KG is a German food company that specialises in meat processing. It has eight operational segments: pork, beef, convenience, sausages, ingredients, logistics, international and central services. Headquartered in Rheda-Wiedenbrück, Germany, the company was founded by Bernd Tönnies in 1971.

The company began as a meat and sausage wholesaler, eventually acquiring the pig abattoir in Weißenfels, Saxony-Anhalt, in 1990. Today, the Weißenfels site produces approximately 2,300 tonnes of meat daily.

Tönnies has expanded and modernised its production through state-of-the-art butchering, which includes the acquisition of Europe’s most advanced fully-automatic butchering facility in 2003. Tönnies began their international expansion into Denmark in 2005. By 2006, it had grown to include a staff of 4,900, and it now sees pig processing production of 8 million per year.

Today, Tönnies employs around 16,500 individuals in Germany and Denmark and generates an annual sales of approximately $8 billion.
